Country Girl

Today started out pretty interesting. Last night I put Cecelia to bed in her princess night gown. I call it her princess night gown not because it has princesses on it, but because she looks like a princess in it. (Picture 1) However, I woke up to a bare bottom baby and a very wet crib. My goodness. So I got her up, put a clean diaper on her, and let her run around semi-naked all day. (Picture 2)

That back fired too. She kept pulling on it and if she wasn't working on being a plumber, she was taking it off. So I just decided to get her dressed.  The rest of the day we just hung out not doing much of anything.

After going a little crazy from being around the house all day, (as shown in the picture above) we went to the park with Aunt Shelby! We had a great time swinging and sliding down the slides!

Being a long weekend, I have my sights set on making something to hold my text books in my car. So if I actually get around to it, I'll make sure I do a DIY. :] What do you like to do during long weekends? I hope everyone has a safe and exciting holiday weekend!

OH! In case you were wondering, this post has absolutely nothing to do with the title. It's just been the song stuck in my head for the past week. Which if you know me, you know it's pretty weird. I don't listen to much country. Shelby is the redneck of the family. ;] It's "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)" by Luke Bryan.

Shake it for the young bucks sittin' in the honky-tonks
For the rednecks rockin' till the break of dawn
For the DJ spinnin' that country song
Come on, come on, come on
Shake it for the birds, shake it for the bees
Shake it for the catfish swimming down deep in the creek
For the crickets and the critters and the squirrels
Shake it to the moon, shake it for me girl

A Formal Introduction

I'm the luckiest Mom in the world. In case you don't know, this is Cecelia Michele. She is the smartest, silliest, most beautiful, and good natured baby on the face of the Earth. Seriously.

She came into our lives July 1st, 2010 and has been such a blessing every single day. She has changed me for the better in more ways than I could count. She is 100% the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me and to know this kind of unconditional love is beyond amazing. Sigh, gee, I love her. Okay, okay...no more mushy gushy. Maybe.

She is the funniest baby I have ever seen and she makes every one we meet smile. This is my favorite picture from her first Christmas. She was absolutely crazy about those snowflakes! I tried to pick just a few of my favorite pictures of her but let's be honest.......they're ALL my favorite!

Aside from her being born, crawling, walking, saying Mama for the first time, and well, basically every single day, her first birthday was one of the most exciting days of her life (for me). I'm already so proud of the little toddler she's becoming and I know she's going to be a beautiful woman one day. However, let's not rush to that. You'll get to know her pretty well since she's the center of my life and the center of most of my shenanigans. Unless I'm with Shelby. That's a whole other story. ;P

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living
My baby you'll be.

Uh-Thrifting We Go!

Today, less than happy baby and all, we took a marvelous adventure right her in our beautiful (quite warm, today) little town, thrifting all the live long day!  I love my days with my best friend!  The projects we stumble across, clothes we laugh at, and the memories we create are always close to my heart!  I'll share a few from today and I hope you find them as magical as I do! Hehe (:

Merryn got quite the giggle out of my three friends that live in my air vent! I found this plug a few months ago helping my friend Alexia prepare to move.  I had every intention of actually using it for it's intended purpose.  I put it in the air vent of my truck so I wouldn't forget to grab it and take it inside when I got home.  On my drive home, I realized they were all very surprised (and, in my opinion, happy to see me) and this just tickled my fancy. Haha... So I decided, I would tell them my stories!

No, I don't actually talk to them; however, I find myself greeting them with a "Good Morning, Friends," as we leave for work in the morning. And at night when I return home, I bid them well for the evening! My sweet Cheyanne even confessed her "naughty attitude and bad choices" to them one day on the way to the grocery story! Haha.  Merryn suggested today that I decorate them!  And now my little friends are beautiful! ;)

My wonderful Matthew attached them to the air vent so they won't take a tumble when we hit bumps and such!  I quite like their company on my long drives back and forth to work -__-

Also bougtht his shirt (with a skeptical Merryn, I must add :-p).  I'm not sure yet what it will become but stay tuned...

And the scarf in my hair is a thrift store find as well!  I'm not sure if I did it correctly or if it looks good but I'm working on it! (;

(Not so) Daily Outfit

Today ended the second week of school for us at Lake Fern Montessori Academy. I do my best to dress professional, while still being young and keeping my personal style. I'm still working at building up my vintage-inspired wardrobe. But I have a decent start. Here's a couple outfits I've worn the last couple weeks.

This dress used to be my Grandmother's and I refashioned it. I cut out shoulder pads, brought up the hem, and took in the sides. Poof! A dress fit for me :]

Being a mother and teacher requires me to teach sharing so naturally one would assume I'm great at sharing. Right? Wrong. These, size too small, beautiful shoes were a great thrift store find by Shelby. We're supposed to be sharing custody of them, but I have to admit, I'm not good at sharing at all. I think she's worn them once while I wear them allllll the time. (Sorry Shelby!)

Audrey Hepburn is my all time favorite actress. I could watch Breakfast at Tiffany's over and over and over and over and well, you get the idea. I love it. I rediscovered that I owned this shirt (that a friend made me eons ago) the other day and was looking for a way to wear it and I knew this dress was perfect to go with it! Yes, that's a dress! It's a halter dress and I just folded down the top of it and the band holds it down in place. I'm going to just remove the the entire top and make it a skirt for good.....eventually.

(What's that in the heels of my shoes?! Ewww!)

Oh, by the way, please excuse my pictures being in my daughter's room. The bookshelf in her room is the perfect height. I promise this will change very soon! Oh yea, excuse the mess too. We're in the process of learning and making memories. That's what I tell myself anyway. ;]

The Pocktapush

The Nanny Diary Presents....

THE POCKTAPUSH
(Octopus for the rest of the world)
;)

This is by far one of my favorite crafts! It's easy, quick, and the kids get to do most of the work (which means I get to watch, yayy!).  There are many different ways to decorate and this is just a general outline!  Feel free to let your kids (or yourself; chuckles, etc.) express themselves and get as messy as you can. Enjoy!

You'll need:

an empty toilet paper roll
scissors
glue (any kind will work)
something to decorate with
(we used finger paint, googly eyes, and ribbon
but crayon, paper, markers, and stamps are awesome too!)
a monkey or two to help decorate
(mine today are three & seven months :-p)

Paint, color, glitter glue, print, cover with paper! Get creative and make your toilet paper role your own!  My Monkey Girl used her hands and LOTS of red & blue finger paint to make purple!  And the Monkey Baby used her toes and plenty of yellow finger/toe (:-p) paint!  I don't know if babies have a "favorite" color at seven months but Baby D gravitates towards yellow when we paint!

This is Monkey Girl's finished product.  She decided to roll hers in a paper towel because she said the print it made looked like "those little thingies" (the suction cups, hehe).  We used paint so she had to let it dry for awhile before moving on! :)

Now it's time to cut the tentacles!  Just start from the bottom and cut halfway or three-quarters the way up the role.  Then set it down on the counter and let the kiddies press it down so the tentacles flatten.  I don't recommend letting little ones do the cutting but my Monkey Girl was just fine with the smashing!

Time for embellishments!
We chose ribbon and googly eyes!  I also like mini buttons for the suction cups and I'm a big fan of glitter glue.  I always like using fabric with different crafts... Maybe some fabric cut outs or some lace trim!

And there you have it!! A Pocktapush! This is Monkey Baby's.  Happy crafting! :-D

Girl's Day Out

So, Shelby and I have crazy kid filled lives. While we wouldn't have it any other way, occasionally we need a break from them. Moms, teachers, and nannies are human too. We promise. Anyway, thanks to our friend, we were able to have a baby free, girl's day out.

We started in Joann's, where we found these suuuuper cute gardening shoes and tools. They really make me want to garden, except, I am seriously lacking a green thumb. In fact, I have a brown thumb. Because that's the color every plant I try to grow turns.  So for now, the gardening will be left for Shelby. The whole purpose for going in Joann's was to get supplies for a t-shirt project (I'll post a tutorial for that one day). Despite spending a hour and a half in there, we got what we needed and moved on.

I have never been able to give blood. I got a tattoo for my 16th birthday, and then another one for my 18th birthday. So when Shelby suggested giving blood, I was nervous, yet excited. Shelby wasn't able to give blood because of a stupid rule that was changing the very next day, but I still was able to and felt so great about helping someone else who will need it.

We ended our day at Sweet! for some super yummy cupcakes. They were just the icing on the cake of our day (get it haha).

I love spending the day with my best friend <3
